Week of June 15-19
It's the sad time of the year....It's time to say good-bye.
We are busy in our room cleaning up, organizing and spending as much time together reflecting on 4th grade. What a great year it has been! Keep reading as many chapter books as possible, practice your multiplication and division facts and use ST Math. Have a great summer!
Week of June 8-12
Marble Maze Race on Monday- it was awesome! Lots of great ideas were displayed- great work to all.
Chapter 12 Math test- Measurement. Students needs to be able to determine the difference between customary and metric units and be able to convert units.
This Thursday, June 11th , is Field Day. Gyom shoes must be worn and bring water, water and water.
We still have 9 days of school left so please keep the homework, cooperative behavior and the hard work coming!
Week of June 1-5
A couple of important dates coming up....
This Thursday, June 4th is our field trip to Brookfield Zoo. We look forward to having a great day! Students should wear comfortable gym shoes and bring a bag lunch and drink. Students will have to carry their own lunch at the Zoo.
Next, the students need to turn in their Marble Maze write-ups by this Friday, June 5th. The actual Marble Maze is due Monday, June 8th. We are looking forward to see everyone's creations!
POD 200's Field Day is on June 11th, Thursday. All parents are invited to join us.
Week of May 26-29
I hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend. It was nice to have the extra to spend with your families.!
We have MAP testing for Math this week on Friday, May 29th (it has been changed from Thursday). Your child is prepared, so please have them come to school well rested and ready to try their best.
I sent home a note last week with information regarding a good test prep website, called IXL. The link is on the website tab above, along with the login information. Encourage your child to keep practicing on any math area.
We have a field trip planned for next Thursday, June 4th to Brookfield Zoo. The cost is $6.00. All money and trip slips are due this Thursday, May 28th. If you are interested in joining us, please check the appropriate box on the form and I will be randomly picking volunteers. (since we can only take four parents-wish I could take more!) .
REMINDER...The Marble Maze forms are due June 5th and the actual Marble Maze is due June 8th.
There will be a regular reading and spelling test this Friday on Lesson 26 ( theme is spiders).
Week of May 18-22nd:
IMPORTANT- MAP testing begins this week for the 4th grade.
Room 203 will have MAP Reading test, this Thursday, May 21st. We will have MAP Math test next Friday, May 29th. Please encourage your child to come to school well rested, bring a positive attitude and try their best.
Besides the MAP tests, we will follow the regular schedule and the students will also have their regular facilities.
Therefore, there will be a Lesson 25 reading and spelling test on Friday.
On Tuesday, we will have the Chapter 11 Math Test on Angles.
**Turn in your exercise log for Gym
Bring a sweater or a sweatshirt to school every day (or leave it here in our cubbies) since it has been very chilly in our classroom.
Week of April 27- May 1st
PARCC testing will be on Monday (Reading), Tuesday (Math) and Wednesday ( Math) in the morning. Get plenty of rest and come prepared to try your best.
We will be busy writing our rough draft for our Animal Research Project all week long. Students will be given enough time in class to do their writing as long as they are using their class time wisely. Our goal is to have the rough draft completed by Thursday so we can peer edit them in class on Friday. The rough drafts will be sent home on Friday so the students can write their final copy at home over the weekend.
Students should be working on their dioramas during the week. The students notes, essay and diorama is all due on Monday, May 4th. If the assignments are late, points will be taken off their grade.
We are working hard in class to show the students the process of writing their essay, so please do not work ahead.
I hope you have fun with it and let the students be creative and add their own style to their dioramas.
There will be a Lesson 22 Reading test on Friday , although it will only cover the vocabulary and the comprehension . I will not assess them in Grammar and Decoding because time has been spent on the PARCC and the Animal Research Project.
Week of April 20-24th
We will continue to work on our research for our Animal Projects this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.We will begin writing our rough draft for our essay on Friday. Students should be gathering and organizing their materials and ideas for the diorama this week. They should be ready to begin construction on the diorama this weekend and the following weekend. The Due date for the Animal Project ( the research, the essay and the diorama) in Monday, May 4th.
Lesson 21 Spelling and Reading test this Friday, April 24th.
Chapter 9 Math test ( decimals) will also be this Friday , April 24th.
Week of April 13-17th
Field Trip on Friday, April 17th to the Chicago History Museum- trip slips and $5 are due by Wed, April 15th,
Reading Unit Review tests on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Report Card pick-up on Thursday, April 16th. A note was sent home to sign up for a conference time. The sign-ups are first come, first serve for your preferred time slot. If you would like to speak with me on April 16th, you must sign up for a conference time in order to be fair to all the parents. Looking forward to seeing everyone- thanks!

Reading Test and Spelling Test ( Spelling Board due on Friday as usual) on Friday for Lesson 17- key skills are summarizing , sequencing, suffixes -ion -ition -ation, and adverbs. Please log on to Think- Central for text.
POD 200 has been invited to see the 2nd Grade performance in the CAC this Friday- looking forward to it!
Next week, we will be taking the PARCC test - Reading and Math- on March 10, 11, and 12. Notes have been sent home regarding these tests.

*Mid-Chapter Review Quiz for Chapter 6 Math on Tuesday (Fractions- equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, finding the Least Common Denominator to compare fractions and using a number line to compare fractions)

News for Week of Feb 17-20:
*This week, the students will take a PARCC simulation Reading test (on Wed ) and Math test (on Thurs) . Please have your child get plenty of sleep, eat breakfast and encourage them to try their best.
Therefore, we will not be following the regular reading/ spelling schedule. There will not be a Journeys Reading or Spelling test or Spelling Board this week.

Social Studies/West Region test will be this Friday, the 20th. The students made flashcards with the 11 states and capitals so they can play the Memory game or Matching game at home.

We have 28 students if you want to send Valentine's Day cards or wrapped treats ( store bought) to school tomorrow. There has to be a card and/or treat for each students. Thanks!
PARENTS- Reminder...there is a DATA meeting for 4th grade parents on Wednesday evening, Feb 11th. Please come and learn how to interpret your child's MAP scores and strategies to improve them. The presentation will be held in the CAC from 5:00-6:00.

One is called Adapted Mind and it supports both Reading and Math ( thanks to Mary Freitas' mother for suggesting it!)

The Southwest region test will be on Wed, Feb 11th.
POD 200 sent a note home regarding our Valentine's day celebration set for this Friday, Feb 13th. If your child would like please bring in Valentine's cards and wrapped candy treats for each child in our class (28 students), we will celebrate pass out the treats during the last period of the day.
Finally, there is a grade level Data meeting at Walt Disney, this Wednesday, from 5-6:00. Please join us!

Biography Book Project Information
Biography Cereal Box Report and Character Dress
Cereal Box or Pop Bottle Project
Due Date: Jan 30th
Directions:
1) Students will use a cereal box or a pop bottle to display the following information.
2) All parts must be complete to receive full credit. (Points are listed below.)
Part 1 Knowledge: Write 5 basic facts about your person that you feel are the most important. ( 2 points for each fact__ of 10)
Part 2 Comprehension: Compare and contrast you and your famous person. Use at least 5 differences and similarities. Make a Venn Diagram. ( __ of 10)
Part 3 Application: Glue a picture of your person onto the front of your box. Under it include a paragraph that would explain what is going on in their life during the time the picture is drawn OR use your pop bottle to represent your person and be creative to show them in appropriate clothing for their time period. ( __ of 20)
Part 4 Analysis: Make a timeline of your person. Make sure to include at least 10 major events in their lifetime. ( __ of 20)
Part 5 Synthesize and Evaluate: Choose one A or B: A) Write a poem about your person. This can be any style of poetry. B)Explain in a persuasive paragraph why you would feel that we should honor this person by giving him/her a National Day of Remembrance. Include facts and opinions. ( __of 25)
Part 6 Resources: Bibliography information must be attached to the side using at least two sources. ( __ of 15 points) *We will go over how to do this in class.
